Kate Melua was a student at the B.R.I.T School for the Performing Arts & Technology when she was discovered by producer Mike Batt, who signed her to his Dramatico Records label. Melua's debut album, 2003's Call Off the Search, became a sensation, and her skillful fusion of jazz and blues styles made the one of the biggest-selling female artists in the history of the British charts.
