Performer Notes
  • Bob Dylan's Live at Brandeis University is a mini-album that was originally issued as a bonus disc available only with the purchase of either The Bootleg Series, Vol. 9: The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964 or the Original Mono Recordings box set. The performance documents Dylan performing on May 10, 1963 at the initial Brandeis Folk Festival. The track list is as follows: "Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance" (incomplete), "Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues," "The Ballad of Hollis Brown," "Masters of War," "Talkin' World War Three Blues," "Bob Dylan's Dream," and "Talkin' Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues." Originally reported to be a homemade found recording from Ralph J. Gleason's closet, the set was supplied to Gleason by Columbia, making it another "basement tape" -- a recording also housed in Columbia's vaults. Live at Brandeis, due to its brief length, is also being issued with a budget price.
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Dylan is as warmly engaging as ever on 'Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues' and 'Talkin' Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues,' which remains one of his funniest songs."
