About the Author

Bob Hepple is a former South African student leader and member of the South African Congress of Trade Unions. He participated in the underground struggle against apartheid and acted as the lawyer for Nelson Mandela and other antiapartheid leaders. He fled South Africa to England before the Rivonia trial of 1963. He is an international expert and activist in the fields of labor law, equality, and human rights, and an emeritus master of Clare College and emeritus professor of law in the University of Cambridge. He is also a Queen’s Counsel and a fellow of the British Academy.
