Alan Palmer is a world-respected authority on modern history. He is the author of over thirty books on the subject, including The Penguin Dictionary of Twentieth-Century History (5th edition, 1999), The Dictionary of the British Empire and Commonwealth (1996) and An Encyclopedia of Napoleon's Europe (1998).
