About the Author

Tumata is the third daughter of William Albert Robinson, the famous navigator and writer. She grew up in Paea, in the family home. As her father was himself attracted by the grace of Ori Tahiti, he considered that Polynesian dancing was an excellent way to integrate his daughters into their country and culture. She started dancing at the age of 7 with famous dancer Paulina. Learning was difficult. It took some hard work and a lot of practice before she could join the troupe. When she was 10, Tumata danced in major hotels such as Hotel Tahiti. It was a way to share with others but also to move outside the family circle as described in her book Comme deux navires qui se croisent dans la nuit. (Like two ships that pass in the night.)
