Friedrich Durrenmatt (1921-90) is one of Switzerland's greatest modern writers. His works include The Assignment, The Pledge, and the Inspector Barlach mysteries, as well as many other works of fiction, plays, and essays. Isabel Fargo Cole is a US-born, Berlin-based writer and translator.
