About the Author

Born in the Bronx in 1938, Haim Chertok has degrees from Fordham University (NY) and the University of Pennsylvania. After military service in the Far East, he was an anti-war activist in the 1960s, and before emigrating to Israel in 1976 he taught at the University of California (Berkeley), Fordham and other institutions. He has published four books and many articles, which have appeared in journals such as The Jerusalem Post, The New York Times, Granta, Midstream, American Jewish Congress Monthly, Tikkun, Commentary and Hadassah. He now lives in Beersheva.
