H C Tayler was commissioned into the Royal Marines in the late 1980s. Specialising in mountain and arctic warfare he spent much time in the Himlayas and Arctic Circle in the early 1990s, and later saw active service with the peacekeeping forces in Bosnia and Kosovo. He was part of the initial vanguard of troops deployed into Iraq in 2003 - the story of Harry Flashman and the Invasion of Iraq is partially based on Tayler's first-hand experiences. A keen traveller, he has lived and worked in many parts of the world, and is currently based in South Africa. Tayler has an MA in linguistics from University College, London and an MBA from Edinburgh Business School. He is married with three children.
