About the Author

Glenn Garvin covered Latin America for nearly two decades, including five as chief of the Miami Herald's bureau in Managua, Nicaragua. His reporting took him to Cuba several times, and in 2001, when Fidel Castro's health seemed to be lagging, he was assigned to write an advance obituary -- an obituary that was updated many, many times over the next 15 years. He is the author of "Everybody Had His Own Gringo: The CIA And The Contras," and (with Ana Rodriguez) "Diary Of A Survivor: Nineteen Years In A Cuban Women's Prison."
