About the Author

Wolfgang Sachs, editor of the bestselling and immensely influential Development Dictionary (1856490440, Zed Books, 1992, 11th impression, 20,000 copies sold), is an internationally renowned authority on development and the environment. He is a senior research fellow at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and a long-time activist in the German and Italian green movements.He has been chair of the board of Greenpeace Germany, a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and is a member of the Club of Rome. Tilman Santarius, born in 1974, studied sociology, anthropology and economics in Germany and the USA. He joined the Wuppertal Institute in 2001 and is a senior research fellow working in the fields of trade policy, climate policy and globalization. From 2002 to 2004 he served as coordinator of the key project on globalization and sustainability at the Wuppertal Institute, and since 2005 he has coordinated the international dialogue project EcoFair Trade Dialogue. Tilman Santarius is active in both the environmental movement and the movement for an alternative globalization.
