Bruno Munari (October 24, 1907–September 30, 1998) was inarguably one of the most groundbreaking designers and inventors of the twentieth century. His contributions to the arts were wide-ranging and his influence far-flung, fundamentally changing the fields of graphic, book, and industrial design, painting, sculpture, film, and photography, literature and poetry, and more. After the birth of his son, Alberto, Munari was became significantly involved in the researching and production of children’s books, games, and toys, encouraging and infusing them with creativity, movement, humor, experimentation, and hands-on learning.
"Originally published in Italy in 1956 under the title Nella notte
buia, this little masterpiece uses a full arsenal of book arts
techniques to convey space and time. Rather than relying
exclusively on text, author Bruno Munari relies instead on symphony
of words and images to convey the story. Thick paper cutouts give
way to fragile transparent sheets, making for a wholly unexpected
and holistic reading experience. Perfect for collectors and paper
engineers alike."
