About the Author

Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston. He was a graduate of the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in physics, and served two tours in Vietnam. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, sailing, poker, chess, pool and pipe collecting. He died in September 2007.

Like most people here, I was sceptical of Sanderson's ability to step into the master's shoes and pick up the trail of this lengthy fantasy masterpiece. Unlike most people here, I'm not quite so glowing with praise. There were a dozen typos at least and on a professional stand point, I was really irritated by that - especially as I remember none in Jordan's work and I found his writing to be at times, quite clunky descriptively speaking.

Having said that, there is pretty much no one alive that could have stepped in to take over this series while managing to both do it justice and keep everyone happy and with that in mind, it must be said that Sanderson did a decent job. I wonder how much of the praise is just tinged with relief that finally several irritating issues were finally wrapped up in this book - something that would have occurred, regardless of the writer at hand - I guess what I'm saying is I don't feel like a lot of people are looking at the writing style critically, they are just happy that the next book is here and exciting things are happening.

So, on a final note - flawed, but decent work, and a good instalment in the series. 3.5/5
