James Currey is the founder of James Currey Publishers and the first Editor of the Heinemann African Writers Series (AWS) where he worked very closely with Achebe on the first 100 titles. Becky Nana Ayebia Clarke MBE is the founder of Ayebia Clarke publishing Ltd. She is a Ghanaian-born publishers. She was submissions editor of the AWS until 2002 when Heinemann discontinued publishing new titles in the AWS and she started her own publishing imprint with her husband in 2003. Between them they worked on the Heinemann AWD for a total of 30 years.
