About the Author

Kay Gillis holds a doctorate in politics and history from Murdoch University and is Research Associate of the Asia Research Centre in Perth, Western Australia. Her first book, Singapore Civil Society and British Power traces the ebb and flow of civil society during the British period. She has lived in Singapore since 1991. Kevin Tan holds a doctorate in law from Yale Law School. He is a well-known local legal and historical scholar and author and is currently President of the Singapore Heritage Society. This is his 14th book.
