Performer Notes
  • Audio Mixer: Adam Hawkins .
  • Recording information: Can-Am Studio, Tarzana, CA; Phantom Studios, Westlake Village, CA.
  • Photographer: Shervin Lainez.
  • Regina Spektor reunited with producer Mike Elizondo for What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, but his sleek-but-not-too-slick sound is the main thing this album has in common with its predecessor, Far. Songs such as lead single "All the Rowboats" mark a return to the darkly witty territory of her earlier work, and it sounds especially welcome compared to the sugary territory Spektor explored on her last album. One constant in her work, however, is her seemingly effortless ability to juggle wit, emotion, and humor -- and Cheap Seats puts it on full display for her fans.
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.72) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Spiking piano-driven songs of heartbreak with comic turns of phrase, cartoon voices and beatboxing outbursts, Regina Spektor has become her generation's Joni Mitchell..."

Entertainment Weekly (p.118) - "[With] gorgeously ambling vignettes like 'Jessica'..." -- Grade: B

Mojo (Publisher) (p.83) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[O]pener 'Small Town Moon' certainly begins in classic, intimate singer-songwriter mode before ceding to unexpectedly rumbustious beats and a breathless carpe diem lyric..."
