Performer Notes
  • Full performer name: Mitchell Ayres & His Fashions In Music.
  • From the evidence of this compilation, which includes two radio shows from 1943 and 1944 (both in front of Naval Reserve units), Mitchell Ayres' Fashions in Music band is revealed as a dependable, multi-talented orchestra, capable of reaching listeners both with moving ballads ("Paper Moon") and thumping jump tunes ("Get On Board, Little Children"). The featured vocalists are rather hit-or-miss; Tommy Taylor and Dick Dyer are effective balladeers, though Ruth McCullough sounds bland and derivative on her feature, "Shoo-Shoo Baby." ~ John Bush
