- Air: Nicolas Godin, JB Duckel.
- This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The last track "Le Soleil Est Pres De Moi" contains footage shot by video director Mike Mills during Air's sold-out tour of the United States and Europe in the Fall of 1998.
- The five tracks compiled on the PREMIERS SYMPTOMES EP constitute nearly all Air music pre-MOON SAFARI, formerly available only as import 12" singles. So not only do these songs serve as raw recipes for Nicolas Godin and JB Duckel's magical blend of sweetly mellow soundscapes, reservedly downbeat tempos and creamy, luxurious melodies, they are arguably the duo's definitive moments. The brassy overtures of "Casanova 70," the funky Moog and sitar duet on "J'ai Dormi Sous L'eau" and the vocoder phrases announcing "Le Soleil Est Pres De Moi" make sure that dark clouds never block the sunshine. As is always the case with Air, the mood is conveyed through heavenly textures, not earthly beats, the two Frenchmen losing their heads in the blue sky to escape the dance floor's grounding monotony. PREMIERS SYMPTOMES is as good as calm, bright and happy music gets in the late nineties.
Rolling Stone (9/2/99, p.108) - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5) - "...nearly as sublime as 1998's MOON SAFARI....PREMIERS SYMPTOMES should provide further evidence of why Air's sonic effervescence is such a gas."
Entertainment Weekly (9/17/99, p.80) - "...collects the sumptuos instrumental singles that first introduced the Eurotrash set....[mixes] synth schmaltz, cooll jazz brass, come-hither strings, and conga grooves into fairly irresistible protoplasmic soul..." - Rating: B+o
Q (1/00, p.87) - Included in Q Magazine's "50 Best Albums of 1999."
Q (7/99, p.150) - Included in Q's Best Chill-Out Albums of All Time - "...Mood music to take listeners out of their surroundings, complete with sweeping strings, kitschly futuristic synthesizers and cocktail-shaking ambiance."
Muzik (9/99, p.75) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...There may be only seven tracks here, but every one is just as gloriously head-spinningly magical as anything off of MOON SAFARI..."
