  • If a form of music exists, Malcolm McLaren has probably thought of a way to exploit it. From his early days managing first the New York Dolls, then the Sex Pistols, Adam And The Ants, and Bow Wow Wow, through his own wide-ranging musical career, McLaren has used everything from Situationist theory to African drumming to grand opera for his own ends.
  • 1995's PARIS, McLaren's first release after a long layoff, is a typically unexpected release. Largely instrumental, this two-disc set references McLaren's adopted home, with Senegalese choirs and Middle Eastern instrumentation blending with the traditional Gallic forms and then-fashionable trip-hop touches. The result falls somewhere between Peter Gabriel and Serge Gainsbourg. Disc Two is an often entertaining collection of remixes.

I'm absolutely in love with it--as I am with the City that this amazing collection of music is named for. Track 13, disc 1 is everything you ever want to experience about Paris without being in the city itself. The instrumental version of this song--track 7, on disc 2 is played over and over and over at my house. If you know what it is to love Paris you'll come to adore this album.
I first became aware of MM with Duck Rock but only realized his genius when I saw the video for Madama Butterfly--about a dozen strikingly beautiful women lounging in a sauna while the music plays--absolute, artistic brilliance. i thought it was the best video i'd ever, and have seen. Malcolm has a great eye for what's classy and beautiful, and with this album he proves tht he has the ear for it as well.

If it's embarrasing Catherine Deneuve into singing or turning a classic Erik Satie tune into a hot jazzy trumpet number, Malcolm pushes buttons nobody even knew we had. BRAVO!!!
