Performer Notes
  • Following on the heels of his excellent SOMETHIN ELS and the career-spanning concert release, CITIES OF THE HEART, Jack Bruce sets aside his bass and performs the entirety of MONKJACK at the piano. Support comes solely from Bernie Worrell (on Hammond B3), who organically winds in and out of the songs like another part of Bruce's musical heart and mind. Beautifully recorded, these dozen songs move through a variety of Bruce originals, several written with lyricists Kip Hanrahan or Pete Brown.
  • The gorgeous and mysterious "Weird Of Hermiston" (from his 1969 album, SONGS FOR A TAILOR) is revisited to bracing and hypnotic effect. The solo-piano setting is not one that is typically associated with Bruce, but it makes perfect sense and works beautifully. Coming nearly 35 years into his recording career, MONKJACK is a Jack Bruce highlight.
