Performer Notes
  • Personnel: David Byrne (vocals, guitar); Annie Clark (vocals, guitar); John Congleton (drum programming).
  • Audio Mixer: Patrick Dillett.
  • Recording information: Water Music Studios, Hoboken, NJ.
  • David Byrne and St.Vincent's Annie Clark are both artists with wide-ranging appetites for diverse sounds and collaboration, so perhaps it was inevitable that they would work together. Recorded at Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey, Love This Giant also boasts many other luminaries, including producer John Congleton, Antibalas, and the Dap-Kings, but it's Byrne and Clark's unique vision that guides the album. Love This Giant's lead single "Who" sets the tone for the rest of the album, giving equal time to their vocals and world-questioning perspectives and spiking them with jagged guitar and arty brass arrangements. ~ Heather Phares
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.80) - 3 stars over 5 -- "Working with a brass band and tandem guitars, the duo trade vocals, delivering hiccuping phoneme and wry kickers over shifty programmed beats."

Billboard (p.36) - "[E]legiac and contemporary melody lines intertwine on 'Lazarus' and the closing 'Outside of Space and Time.'"

Q (Magazine) (p.94) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The songs, driven by their charismatic duets, mix inventive brass grooves with playfully indelible melodies. They both sound like they're having a lot of fun."

Mojo (Publisher) (p.91) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is cerebral yet genial fare, winningly so on the Clark-helmed, vaguely Brazilian flavoured 'Weekend In The Dust'..."

Paste (magazine) - "[T]he bulk of the album blooms from weird digital constructions and half-decayed samples, oddly arranged horn blasts and orchestrations..."
