  • Photographer: C. Taylor Crothers.
  • Long a guiding light of the jam scene, the Dave Matthews Band is always better witnessed in its natural road warrior setting, and LIVE AT MILE HIGH MUSIC FESTIVAL is no exception. The sprawling three-disc set captures all of the groups many shades, from the melancholy, dulcet tones of "Proudest Monkey" to the full-out rocking version of the combo's first big hit, "Ants Marching." Other highlights include a spirited cover version of "Sledgehammer" on which Matthews sounds eerily like Peter Gabriel, and a rousing eight-minute take on Sly Stone's funk classic, "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Agin)."
