Performer Notes
  • This collection contains 18 tracks featuring Patrick Street, Altan, Sileas, Rare Air, Andy Irvine and others.
  • This is one of several very good compilations drawn from the vaults of Green Linnet, the best Celtic music label in America. Like all the others, this one is generously packed with fine performances by a variety of Celtic artists from all over Europe -- most of the artists are Irish or Scottish, but the Breton band Kornog makes an appearance (with a very nice set of gavottes), as does a Galician band called Milladoiro; their track is a jig called (get this) "Muineira de Chantada." And let's not forget the deeply rooted Celtic traditions of Quebec, which are represented here by Ad Vielle Que Pourra. Throw these all in with sprghtly performances by Altan, the Tannahill Weavers, Matt Molloy, Phil Cunningham and the rest of the usual suspects, and you've got a surprisingly diverse and tasty stew of ancient and modern Celtic folk music. ~ Rick Anderson
