  • This tribute to pop/R&B genius Stevie Wonder kicks off with a major surprise. You might think you didn't necessarily need to hear a dusty old rocker like Eric Clapton taking on Wonder's churning, funky "Higher Ground," but you'd be wrong. Clapton attacks the tune with such uncharacteristic ferocity that most listeners will initially be uncertain that it's actually ol' Slowhand behind the mike. Quite unexpectedly, Clapton turns in what must be one of the most impassioned, soulful vocal performances of his long career. Young R&B crooner Glenn Lewis shows why he's a cut above by expertly navigating his way through a faithful rendition of "Superstition."
  • Reggae man Stephen Marley turns a neat trick by turning the Jamaican lilt of "Master Blaster" around into an R&B/hip-hop groove. Brian McKnight pays tribute to Stevie's multi-instrumental capabilities by doing his own impressively sophisticated one-man-band thing on "Send One Your Love." Closing the album, India Arie chose to honor the great man with her own Wonder-dedicated original song rather than tackle one of his compositions. While there's no way that the fledgling songwriter can hope for her track to compare to so many expertly crafted tunes, it's obvious her heart is in the right place, and it's heart that makes Wonder's music (and this collection) work so well in the first place.
