Not to be confused with the somewhat similar GREATEST PERFORMANCES, this 10-song budget-priced compilation is a somewhat peculiar selection of familiar hits and more obscure tunes. The biggest of the hits, of course, is the grand "She's a Lady," but the equally excellent "I (Who Have Nothing)" and "Puppet Man" are as delightful as that classic.
Of the more oddball selections, "Daughter of Darkness" and "Resurrection Shuffle" are definitely among the weirder songs Tom Jones has ever recorded. But their kitsch potential is overshadowed by the fact that no matter what material he's given and what musical context he's in, Tom Jones's powerful, rough-edged but supple voice is one of the most underrated instruments in pop music. This isn't the best possible introduction for the complete Tom Jones novice, but fans will welcome some relative obscurities.
