This is an elegant small statue of the Chinese folkloric deity Budai, usually identified as an incarnation of Maitreya, the future Buddha. His name means "Cloth Sack", since he is usually depicted as carrying a bag with precious items. His very popular nickname, "Laughing Buddha" comes from his cheerful appearance. According to the Chinese History, he was born in the Chinese City Fenghua and lived during the Later Liang era (907 AD- 923 AD). Budai Monk is considered a symbol of health, happiness, generosity, good luck, wealth and longevity. This is a spark of Chinese Culture into our statues collection. An ideal decor item for those interested in Buddhism, Chinese and Eastern Culture overall.
