Discover Aotearoa in this fun lift-the-flap New Zealand treasure hunt from A to Z. Join Girl and Bird on an adventure around New Zealand, and help them follow the clues for where they will go to next. From city to shore, north to south and east to west, you'll see some familiar places, and discover some that are new to you. Our story starts with a bottle containing a secret message, washed up on a beach. The bottle begins a trail of clues, and children lift the flap to reveal the clue that takes them on an alphabet journey all over New Zealand. Included is a glossary with interesting facts about each location. With quirky, characterful illustrations, this engaging picture book is a fun and interactive way for children to discover different places in New Zealand. It celebrates our rich history, culture, diversity and physical beauty in a gloriously handmade format. A is for Aotearoa is a must-have for tourists, and for every New Zealand home.
About the Author
Diane Newcombe (Author) A long-time avid reader and writer with a particular interest in poetry, Diane Newcombe's love of children's literature increased during her children's preschool years and involvement in the Playcentre movement. During that time she met her friend Melissa Anderson Scott, and following subsequent children's literature courses, and the book-enthusiasm of grandchildren, she was delighted to join forces with Melissa to explore picture book projects. A is for Auckland, published in 2013, was the result of their first collaboration, and they are delighted to follow it with A is for Aotearoa. Melissa Anderson Scott (Illustrator) Melissa Anderson Scott has been exhibiting paintings and sculpture in New Zealand and overseas since 1990. Creating art with children and grandchildren reminded her of the wonderful, powerful illustrations in books from her own childhood. She became determined to pursue picture book illustration, and went through a challenging retraining exercise. Melissa has a real passion for producing New Zealand-related images for our kids to identify with. Her long-time friend from when their children were at Playcentre, Diane Newcombe, came to her with a wonderful idea for a project, A is for Auckland, which was published in 2013. She and Diane have had a lively time creating A is for Aotearoa, which answers the eternal questions, 'who, what, where?' with a Kiwi accent!
