MARY LAUDIEN is a fair weather sailor (better known as a cruiser). She has never taken a sailing lesson or a power squadron/VHF Radio Course, but thankfully, her husband, (who thinks he's CAPTAIN) has! Unfortunately, Mary didn't start sailing until her later 40's and therefore, she missed out on the fun of taking her sons (as children) out on sailing vacations. But, she can tell anyone who will listen that she's had many a humorous (if not scary) experience while sailing the Pacific NW on their Catalina, the TWOCAN. When Mary wrote, WHO'S the CAPTAIN? she visualized David Alavoine's cartoons. Each time he'd draft a sketch and email it for collaboration and feedback, it was like opening a birthday gift; his cartoon interpretations the perfect match to the text. Be prepared to be entertained- young and old alike! DAVE ALAVOINE is Pacific Yachting Magazine's very own cartoonist for their monthly COCKPIT CONFESSIONS cartoons! He is masterful at taking the context of a story line and interpreting it through a cartoon to capture the humor of the situation, as well as the emotions of the characters. Dave, unlike Mary, has sailed the world as a British Merchant Marine and a 3rd Officer of freighter ships. His nautical knowledge surfaces in his cartoons, as they appear within the context of comical situations families encounter on the sea together. Expect loads of laughs with this collection of memorable boating cartoons. DAVID'S NAUTICAL LANGUAGE CHALLENGE (from his Sea-Faring Days): "All hands proceeding on draft, muster aft abaft the after Carley Raft." HUH? W_H_A_T?
