About the Author

James R. Farr is a professor emeritus at Purdue University, where he formerly held the Germaine Seelye Oesterle Professor of History chair. He specializes in European history, the history of globalization, and history theory and methods. He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1983.

Patrick J. Hearden is a professor emeritus of history at Purdue University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. His historical specialty is international relations.
