Ernest H. Sanders" (olim Helmut Salomon)" was born in 1918 in Hamburg (Germany). A son of the bank director Paul Salomon, he had a carefree childhood until the rise of National Socialism. In 1938, Sanders emigrated to New York, where he started an academic career in musicology. He retired in 1987 after nearly thirty-five years of teaching at the Department of Music at" Columbia University"" in the City of New York."
