Patricia Grace (Ngati Toa, Ngati Raukawa, Te Ati Awa) is the author of many novels, short stories and children's stories. She has won numerous awards, including the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize for Fiction and the Neustadt International Prize for Literature. In 2007 she received a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to literature. Translators Te Ohorere and Wiremu Kaa have worked as writers, teachers and educators and worked on publishing projects focused on te reo Maori and educational resources. Te Ohorere Kaa has written many children's books in te reo Maori, and Wiremu Kaa was an advisor to the Ministry of Education, lecturer at Victoria University and chairman of its School of Maori Studies in 1996. In 2010 they received Sir Kingi Ihaka Awards, recognising their contribution to strengthening the continuity of Maori culture.
