After being advised by his English teachers that he would "get nowhere with that attitude", David Barnett quit school at 17, determined to write about pop music. He landed a job with Jackie, but was immediately transferred to action comic Commando. He caught Suede by chance on The Chart Show and dedicated his efforts to creating the ultimate Suede fanzine, Suave & Elegant. The band liked it so much they asked him to work for them and he spent ten years following their every move, being privy to the kind of secrets that would astonish even the most devoted Suedehead.
