Adventure fiction is big business. Matthew Reilly has had his books translated into 14 different languages. Sam Fisher (the pseudonym for Michael White, Equinox, The Medici Secret) is now putting his hat in the ring. State of Emergency is your typical adventure tale and it reads like an 'end of the world' movie. E-Force is a team of hand-picked heroes formed by Mark Harrison, a man who went into action when he realised that heavily publicised disasters did not have a special rescue squad. E-Force are called out of their initial training early to save an environmentally- conscious senator, when bombs go off at one of his packed public speeches. Using high-tech equipment, E-Force attempt to assist less-famous civilians while trying to be true to their mission and fight the capitalist villains. This book will do very well with those that have finished the Matthew Reilly backlist, dabbled in James Phelan and are old hands at Tom Clancy. It's an easy book to read, and fans of adventure fiction will not be disappointed. State of Emergency sticks closely to a formula for a genre that has proven to be a winner.
