Astonishing insight into the personal life of one of the most influential political icons of the 20th century All text and photos never before published Includes self-portrait photos, photos of his family taken by Che, and photos of Che taken by his wife Includes poetry by Che and letters to his family, including his final letters to his children Forthcoming Che films (The Motorcycle Diaries and Soderberg's biopic) will ensure continued "Che mania" Massive appeal, beyond the specialised audience with an interest in Latin American politics and history Self-Portrait, an intimate look at the man behind the icon, is a remarkable photographic and literary memoir, drawing on the rich seam of diaries, letters, poems, journalism and short stories Che Guevara left behind in Cuba. Unique among the many books about Che Guevara, Self-Portrait has been compiled in close collaboration with Che's family, using exclusive material from his family's private archives. Revealed for the first time is Che Guevara's personal world, unveiling his extraordinary candour, irony, dry humour and passion. The photographs, chosen from the Guevara family albums, bring to light a surprisingly sensitive and artistic edge of the legendary revolutionary. A dedicated amateur photographer, Che's own self-portraits and other photographs are a stunning feature of this book, as is the cover photo - selected by Che's life companion Aleida March.
