Harold James was commissioned in the 8th Gurkha Rifles in 1942 and the following year he was seconded to 3/2nd Gurkha Rifles on Wingate's First Chindit Expedition behind Japanese lines in Burma, where he was awarded an immediate MC at the age of 19. After the war he became a press officer with the Automobile Assocoiation. His home now is in Kathmandu, Nepal, where he lives with his Napali godson and family.
