Steven W. Hatch was raised on a ranch in southeastern Idaho. During the 1990s he earned bachelor of science in business administration and master of business administration degrees from the University of Phoenix. During his thirty-six-year career in the aerospace industry, he worked on programs for NASA, the US Air Force, the US Navy, and commercial interests. Hatch has been passionate about creating things with his own hands from a very young age, and he has always enjoyed crafts such as leatherworking and woodworking. Horses have also been a big part of his life. His rural background and passion for making things himself contributed greatly to his decision to build a yurt. His love of teaching and helping others drove him to document the process and share his experience in Practical Yurts, a practical guide to do-it-yourself homebuilding that addresses many of the most difficult questions.
