About the Author

Cindy Rapson was born in the UK, but lived and worked in the USA and New Zealand before settling in England. She says 'I have been making things and doing various crafts since I was a little girl. I love patchwork and quilting but am the queen of the UFO (unfinished object). Paper projects are now my obsession because they fulfill my need to play with colour and pattern, and because they don't take very long I actually finish quite a few projects now!' Cynthia has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ambassador University of California, has been a demonstrator for Kars since 2004, runs Gingham Buttons, her own craft shop, and writes for magazines.

Papercraft Inspirations:Grab a needle and thread and transform your cards! If you thought embroidery was the realm of cross stitchers or risks looking old fashioned, think again! The projects in this book bring it right up to date - and on to your cards! - by combining stitching with embossing and die-cutting for a modern look. There's no confusing lingo as all you need is straight stitch or backstitch to decorate pricked patterns. There's plenty of step-by-step instructions to help you get started plus photos of finished cards to get those creative juices flowing!myshelf.com:There is nothing new about embroidery, but usually surely it is done on fabric? Doing it on card and paper is now a popular way of decorating greetings cards using thread, a needle and some simple stitches (mainly going up one hole and down the other in case you are worried). Here is a whole book filled with ideas for this enjoyable craft. This is one of my own favorite methods for decorating a card, and there are some lovely cards in here to inspire you. Not only cards either, but a hanging heart for your wall and (my own favorite) a glorious bag to store craft materials in, all made of paper and card. The patterns are provided for making these delightful items as well as some extensive and well-illustrated steps. My only problem with this book is the fact that there is not one single pattern for stitching in paper, so you cannot get started immediately however much card and thread you might possess. You need brass templates - lots of them - and if you wonder how these are used to their maximum potential, look no further for ways to extend the use of your collection. These are pricey items, and one of the things I like most about this craft is that it is relatively cheap and uses up leftover thread from other projects. Also, thread and a few needles are not expensive items and last a long time. An essential for any owner of brass templates, but I would have preferred this to be mentioned in the title.Machine Knitting Monthly:Here's an opportunity to learn the craft of making wonderful embroideries on paper, using paper pricking and embroidery techniques. Each project is accompanied by full step-by-step instructions. This quick and striking craft adds a wonderful heirloom quality to your papercraft projects and the inventive and practical guide will get you stitching in no time. There are seven projects with 34 variations and over 200 step-by-step photographs. It's also a creative way to use and re-use your embroidery templates.People's Friend:If you happen to think that folding and cutting paper isn't quite for you, yet you'd still like to try your hand at some pretty cards and trinkets, then Cynthia Rapson's book might be of interest. Step-by-step instructions on how to emboss, "prick" and stitch into the tiny holes you create mean that this book is perfect for beginners and the more experienced crafter alike.
