Set in the early 1960s, Gage's second novel is in the same vein as her first, the best seller A Glimpse of Stocking : an overblown epic filled with intrigue, personal problems, and gratuitous sex. Haydon Lancaster, the sensual scion of a super-wealthy U.S. family becomes a politician and rises rapidly through the ranks, meeting up with many women on the way. Of course, he gets it in the end, as a result of one of these illicit liaisons. The plot is far-fetched and hard to follow, and the myriad characters are one-dimensional and lifeless. There may be some demand since this is to be serialized in Cosmopoli tan .--Gwen Gregory, Adams State Coll. Lib., Alamosa, Col.
