Michael Barthorp was educated at Wellington College and was
commissioned into the Rifle Brigade in 1946. Demobilized in 1948,
he served as a Territorial with the Royal Hampshire Regiment before
rejoining the Regular Army in the Northamptonshire Regiment to
continue a family tradition, ending his career with the Royal
Anglian Regiment in 1968. He has since published numerous books on
the history and costume of the British Army, including nine titles
for the Men-at-Arms series. He lived in the Channel Islands.
Angus McBride is one of the world's most respected historical
illustrators, and has contributed to more than 70 Osprey titles in
the past three decades. Born in 1931 of Highland parents but
orphaned as a child, he was educated at Canterbury Cathedral Choir
School. He worked in advertising agencies from 1947, and after
national service, emigrated to South Africa. He now lives and works
in Cape Town.
