John Webster is Emeritus Professor of Animal Husbandry at theUniversity of Bristol. Author of the widely acclaimed AnimalWelfare: A Cool Eye Towards Eden and Animal Welfare: LimpingTowards Eden, he is the founding father of the Bristol AnimalBehaviour and Welfare Science group that has gathered evidence andpioneered the arguments necessary to achieve improved welfarestandards for veal calves, broiler chickens, laying hens and dairycows. UFAW is an internationally recognised, independent, scientificand educational animal welfare charity concerned with improvingknowledge and understanding of animals needs in order topromote high standards of welfare for farm, companion, laboratory,captive wild animals and those with which we interact in thewild.
