"This is a delightfully personal and deeply insightful book that will make you look at India and China in a new way. We don't often think about how local perspectives inside these countries affect their national policies. William Antholis traveled with his family to different regions and discovered how attitudes in differing provinces are intersecting with global forces. Anyone doing business in these countries should read this book." --Walter Isaacson, president and CEO of The Aspen Institute, author of Steve Jobs and Einstein: His Life and Universe "Antholis presents an essential idea for global business and political leaders --look beyond New Delhi and Beijing to fully understand the state- and provincedifferentiated needs of India and China. Timely, extremely well-researched, and written in engaging prose, Inside Out, India and China provides a concise overview of key regions, as well as actionable recommendations for global leaders looking to strengthen their ties with the world's two largest nations." --Dominic Barton, global managing director, McKinsey & Company " Inside Out vividly demonstrates that the saying 'all politics is local,' first coined in the U.S., is no less true of India and China. Its incisive and elegantly written portraits of some of the key states and provinces of India and China --and of the politicians and party bosses who run them --provide a fascinating window into the rich and complicated political tapestry of these two giant countries. Anyone who wants to understand the world today needs to read this book." --Liaquat Ahamed, author of The Lords of Finance, winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in history "This book is long overdue and the level of original insight offered by Bill Antholis undoubtedly will spark new thinking in diplomatic and business circles about the importance of grass roots strategies. Engaging local opinions, audiences, and networks and thereby humanizing relationships, particularly with China and India, will be central to any successful 21st century game plan. Antholis has started a fresh conversation that is certain to leave us all thinking and planning a bit more inside out!" --Jon Huntsman, former U.S. ambassador to China and governor of Utah

Like many others, he believes that their rise will help define the 21st century and that China and India are likely to catch up and surpass the US and the EU in the next few decades...As Antholis puts it, this is an attempt to sketch how a few of China's and India's many component parts are being shaped by global forces and in turn are shaping those forces, which has long been overlooked." -- Global Times "All politics, the saying goes, is local. Yet most books about the two Asian giants, India and China, take a distinctly non-local view of both countries, surveying their policies from New Delhi and Beijing and describing developments in both from a macro perspective. William Antholis's Inside Out: India and China: Local Politics Go Global marks a rare and welcome departure from this norm." --Shashi Tharoor, India Today
