Shaykh Tosun Bayrak is a Sufi master of the Halveti-Jerrahi order. Born in Istanbul he studied art, architecture and art history becoming a well-known artist with works in many collections. After meeting his teacher, Muzaffer Ozak Ashki al-Jerrahi in 1970 he devoted his life to the study and teaching of Islam and Sufism. In addition to two books of poetry in Turkish and many articles on art and religion, he has written, translated and edited numerous books on Islamic spirituality.
"This classic work by the famous Muslim philosopher and spiritual teacher is at once an exploration of metaphysics, a hymn to divine love and a heartfelt paean to the 'perfect man' - that is, Mohammed, the prophet and founder of Islam. The Tree of Being is the vast structure of Existence stretching from its roots in the nine hells to the topmost Throne of God...This edition includes an essay on the relationship between the Sheikh (Master) and pupil and an exposition of the life of Mohammed from a modern Sufi master and descendent of a lineage. I liked it - read it. Staff recommendations: Rob, staff member at Watkins bookshop, The Watkins Review, London 2006
