Simone Arnold is an ordinary French schoolgirl--spirited and stubborn. Then the Nazis march in, demanding complete conformity. Friends become enemies. Teachers spout Nazi propaganda. School officials recruit for the Hitler Youth. Simone's family refuses to heil Hitler as Germany's savior. They are Jehovah's Witnesses, and they reject Nazi racism and violence. The Nazi Lion makes them pay the price.

About the Author

Simone Arnold Liebster was born on August 17, 1930, and endured discrimination and persecution as a young Jehovah's Witness in Nazi-occupied France and Germany. In 1956 she married Max Liebster, who survived six years in five Nazi camps. The Liebsters have shared their experiences with educators, students, and the public in Europe and North America. They established the Arnold-Liebster Foundation in 2002 to educate future generations in the lessons of history.

Patricia Sergeant on
Simone is the only child of loving parents who taught her in a very short time as much as they could to prepare her for and give her as much resilience as possible to face the 'lion' of Nazi rule across Europe. As Jehovah's Christian Witnesses were already aware of the plight of their fellow believers in Nazi Germany and knew it would only be a matter of time before it would be their turn. They taught their little daughter to bear up, stay strong, keep trusting always in Jehovah and most of all to not be consumed by hatred. They were overwhelmingly successful in this one task and Simone has set down her childhood memories so we can all confidently beat a bully without resorting to hatred and violence. An inspiring account which benefits all who read it.
Denise Mary James on
An eye-opener to many who would not be aware of the faithful stand taken against the seemingly overwhelming power of a government intent on world domination at the cost of innocent lives.
Susan Schroder on
Awe inspiring book. What a brave child. A truly amazing story.
