Peter John Hassall, of Zayed University Dubai, is deviser and editor of the 50-word Extremely Short Story Competition [ESSC] which he has run a number of times in universities, colleges and schools in the UAE, and with support from the British Council throughout the Arabian Peninsula. He is a member of IAWE (the International Association for World Englishes) and has helped run the ESSC seven times in Japan with close collaboration with the Japanese Association For Asian Englishes (JAFAE), and more recently with Japan Times. In 2014, Peter judged the ESSC run for Romanian Teachers of English by the Shakespeare School, Bucharest. The ESSC has a Project Partnership with EAQUALS: Evaluation & Accredition of Quality in Language Services and has received support from the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). Peter John Hassall has compiled an international travelling exhibition which [Facets FITEx] has been translated into many languages in addition to Arabic and has been displayed at universities and art galleries in Europe, the Middle East & Far East and Pacific Rim with further exhibitions planned in the United States. A parallel Japanese-English anthology is also available from Amazon authored by Peter John Hassall and translated by Yuko Takeshita and Fujimi Sakai Tanaka. Recent academic papers comparing the language used in the ESSC by students in the UAE and Japan have been authored by Peter John Hassall and Naomi Matsubara published by Learner Corpus Studies in Asia and the World (LCSAW) 2014 by the University of Kobe, Japan. Dr. Omnia Amin earned her PhD in Modern and Contemporary English Literature and Feminist Theory from the prestigious Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London. She is an author, translator and Professor at the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities at Zayed University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She works with the cutting edge concepts of quantum physics, the archetypes of mythology, the empowerment of women and the spiritual evolution of humanity. She is involved in the contemporary cultural and art scene in the Middle East and works with many artists around the world.
