About the Author

Rosemary Ellen Guiley is one of the foremost authorities on the paranormal. A journalist by training, she has worked full time in the paranormal since 1983 as an author, presenter, and investigator. She has written 31 nonfiction books on paranormal topics - translated into 13 languages - as well as hundreds of articles. Guiley's books include The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits, Third Edition; The Encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy; The Encyclopedia of Vampires, Werewolves, and Other Monsters; and The Encyclopedia of Angels, Second Edition, all for Facts On File and Checkmark Books. She lives in Maryland.

Guiley (The Encyclopedia of Saints) has revised this essential lexicon in response to Wicca's rise in popularity and recent acceptance as an organized religion. Spanning centuries and continents, the book defines 480 of witchcraft's and wizardry's major historical events, figures, tools, sites, symbols, and abstract terms. The highly engaging, alphabetically organized entries run several paragraphs in length and deftly clarify a term's etymology as well as its spiritual, historical, or spell-making significance. A nice complement to Lexa Rosean's The Encyclopedia of Magickal Ingredients (2005); recommended for Wiccan, religious studies, and occult collections. Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.
