Reviews

The stylish funny illustrations are by the highly acclaimed illustrator Paul Hess. Brimming with humour, magic and visual charm, Richard Monte's retellings are a delight for all ages. || This is a charming retelling of these traditional folk stories...Well written and with lots of vivid description, they would also stimulate an older reader. || An excellent book... Hess's stylish illustrations add humour and atmosphere in equal measure. || Although modernised in their language and style of story-telling, the legends still hold the kind of quality that children always look for in fairy tales and folk stories. A perfect introduction to another country' s heritage. || Interesting, well-written, imaginatively illustrated and designed book... there are rich rewards for those who enter the fascinating stories inside. || These seven short folk stories from around Poland are known to every Polish child, and the sparkling and accessible re-tellings will delight all children - start with the story of the Dragon of Krakow in which the threatening dragon is tricked by a shoemaker, and your class will call out for more. || Recommended reading
