A member of the Catholic Sisters of St Joseph of Medaille, a
religious order committed to reaching out to the poor, Sister Helen
Prejean is Director of Pilgrimage for Life and is on the staff of
Hope House in the St Thomas housing projects. Born in Baton Rouge,
she now lives in Louisiana.
In 1994, she won the US Christopher Award, for artistic excellence
affirming the hightest values of the human spirit, and in the same
year also won the American Library Association Notable Book of the
Year for Dead Man Walking.
