About the Author

Christopher Bean was born into a police family in 1936 and educated at Doncaster Grammar School. Always been a keen sportsman, he swam for Yorkshire in his early years. He joined the West Riding Constabulary in 1952. After three years in the Royal Corps of Military Police, which he represented in the British Modern Pentathlon, he re-joined the police in 1956 as a constable. In 1957 he moved to Nyasaland as Inspector of Police, eventually achieving the rank of superintendent, before serving with the Bechuanaland Protectorate Police from 1964 to 1967 when he retired from police service. He then worked in the life insurance industry in Rhodesia and South Africa for thirty years, returning to England in 2003 “to take up a life of fly-fishing and snooker”. He is a committee member for the local branch of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO).
