Christobel Saunders is Professor of Surgical Oncology at The
University of Western Australia, teaching surgery to medical
students and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research
projects.
An active clinical researcher, she is a lead investigator in
several large studies in cancer. Her research interests include
clinical trials, epidemiology and pathology of pregnancy-related
(gestational) breast cancer, familial breast cancer, minimally
invasive treatments and quality of life research, and have led to
the publication of over 65 scientific papers in refereed journals
as well as books and book chapters.
Professor Saunders is a well-recognised cancer policy advisor and
cancer control advocate. She is an executive member of several
local, national and international cancer organisations, including
Cancer Australia, The Cancer Council WA (President) and the
National Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Sunil Jassal is a consultant in Breast Surgery at Royal Perth
Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. He was born and completed
initial medical and surgical training in Victoria, gaining an FRACS
in the area of General Surgery. Sunil subsequently moved to Perth
to pursue further training and expertise in his sub-specialty
interest of Breast Surgery.
The text is beautifully printed so as to make it readable and
helpful. The authors appear to have been objective and have had
caring attitudes.

This is a very appealing book. I wish I had had it at the beginning
of my own journey it would have answered all my questions. It does
not look frightening and it is relatively slim; it is easy to put
it down and pick it up later, recalling what you read previously.
It will give patients/carers/friends a better understanding of the
implications of breast cancer.

I like the fact that it is concise and yet tries to cover almost
everything for the breast cancer survivor. I particularly like its
recommendation of a 3 survivorship plan and the template at the
end. The diagrams and photographs aid clarity and there is a good
glossary.

I found the book to be excellent. It deals with facts but without
being insensitive to other issues (such as psychological ones) and
includes new developments and treatments. It does answer questions
that one might not want to ask the medical staff for fear of
"bothering" them with non-medical issues. I think anyone affected
by breast cancer would find it useful, including health
professionals who, to my mind, are not necessarily "au fait" with
breast cancer.
