About the Author

Barbara Taylor Bradford is the author of 25 bestselling novels, including Playing the Game, Being Elizabeth, and The Ravenscar Dynasty. She was born in Leeds, England, and from an early age, she was a voracious reader: at age 12, she had already read all of Dickens and the Bront sisters. By the age of twenty, she was an editor and columnist on Fleet Street. She published her first novel, A Woman of Substance, in 1979, and it has become an enduring bestseller. Barbara Taylor Bradford's books are published in over 90 countries in 40 languages, with sales figures in excess of 82 million. Ten of her novels have been adapted into television mini-series starring actors including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Liam Neeson, Deborah Kerr and Elizabeth Hurley. She has been inducted into the Writers Hall of Fame of America, and in June of 2007, Barbara was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to Literature. She lives in New York City with her husband, television producer Robert Bradford, to whom all her novels are dedicated, and their Bichon Frise dogs, who sit under her desk while she writes.

For the 30th anniversary of her first novel, A Woman of Substance, Bradford delivers her 25th book. The riches-to-more-riches tale features beloved matriarch Emma Harte's plucky great-granddaughter, M, who, at 23, moves to New York to start a modeling career, banking on her intelligence and business savvy, her Audrey Hepburn looks and her well-connected friends to help her. A violent attack had compelled M to leave behind a life of privilege in London, and from her new home in a shared Chelsea brownstone, M begins her ascent, eventually landing on the catwalks of Paris and falling in love with a famous British actor, though her successes soon attract the attention of family enemies. The plot, while contrived, satisfies on the fashion-and-passion front, and, as always, at the heart of the action stands a determined heroine scrambling up the ladder of success supported by minor characters, each with a complicated backstory. Fans will not mind if the connections holding them together seem tenuous. (Oct.) Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.

Her latest novel, The Ravenscar the first of a planned trilogy of novels, all destined for best-sellerdom." --Seattle Post-Intelligencer "The Harte saga is as much a force of nature as a work of fiction...the issues at stake still compel readers after 25 years. Not many novels have the ability to completely immerse the reader, but this one draws you into the story from the very first page." --Romantic Times BOOKreviews on Just Rewards "Bradford gives her readers more of what she does best--strong, savvy female protagonists who relentlessly pursue great destinies, characters much like the author herself...well-written and full of emotion...completely riveting...the plot, while always complex, has suspenseful moments to keep the pace sharp...good reading...Unexpected Blessings clearly shows why Bradford is still the premier writer of family sagas." --Miami New Times "The exploits and adventures of Bradford's indomitable heroines continue to make for lusty escapist fiction in this robust fifth novel in the series." --Publishers Weekly on Unexpected Blessings "The enduring theme of family loyalty ennobles the Harte family saga and raises it to a heartwarming crescendo that longtime fans will appreciate." --Book Page "Readers who loved A Woman of Substance will enjoy Emma's Secret." --Denver Post "In her 19th novel, the grande dame of mass-market fiction revisits her first heroine--the indomitable Emma Harte." --New York Daily News on Emma's Secret "So many of us turn to novels like Barbara Taylor Bradford's...for our daily dose of amour." --Woman's Day Magazine "Promises to tantalize, mesmerize, and titillate readers of all ages.
