As Trafford Sewell struggles to work through the usual crowds of commuters, he is confronted by the intimidating figure of his Parish Confessor. Why has Trafford not been streaming his every moment of sexual intimacy onto the community website like everybody else? Does he think he's different or special in some way his fellow man and woman? Does he have something to hide? Imagine a world where everyone knows everything about everybody. Where what a person feels and truly believes is protected under the law, while what is rational, even provable is condemned as heresy. A world where to question ignorance and intolerance is to commit a Crime against Faith. Ben Elton s dark, savagely comic novel imagines a post-apocalyptic society where religious intolerance combines with a confessional sex obsessed, self-centric culture to create a world where nakedness is modesty, ignorance is wisdom and privacy is a dangerous perversion. A chilling vision of what s to come? Or something rather closer to what we call reality?

I really enjoyed Blind Faith for the exaggeration of the many themes that I’m interested in.
The book is a bit of a parody on the internet and on American culture, where people constantly talk on chat forums, YouTube and webcams about anything including their sex lives.
Privacy almost becomes a privilege in a time when every aspect of life, including sex, belief, finance etc is shared and up for discussion.
Confessional culture is certainly part of life these days.

Elton also shows that having blind faith while ignoring scientific facts can be harmful.

This book by Ben Elton is excellent. It is quite a scary outlook on what our world could soon be. While reading it you realise how many of this comments are already happening today. Have a look at talk shows like Jerry Springer where anything goes and you can see that if the right people get into power how soon Ben Eltons world of Blind Faith could eventuate. A great read and perhaps a bit of a scary outlook into what our future could soon be if we all had "Blind Faith".
Mary Ridley on
I bought this book because I'd lent it out and hadn't got it back.
As I watch changes like facebook and iPhones I can really see that what he's saying is becoming more and more real.
Robert Bissonnette on
A thinly veiled parody of elements in 1984 (amongst other things) with less of the biting satire. I'm not saying I didn't like it, I just couldn't get as "in" to it as his other books. The narrative wasn't as gripping as his previous works. Still get it (especially if you hate social media!) just don't expect it to be earth shattering.
